4 Things You Should Know Before Letting us Treat your Bipolar Disorder

Psychiatrists & Psychologists Together

Anxiety can look and feel different for everyone. That is why we have both clinical psychologists and psychiatrists under one roof. They work closely together whenever needed, so you can get the right kind of support at every stage of your care.

You Get the Benefit of a Second Opinion

Your treatment does not depend on just one person’s expertise. A senior clinical team also reviews your diagnosis, treatment plan and your progress, giving you a second opinion built into your care.

We Understand You Before your Treatment Starts

Most therapists get to know you gradually over several sessions. We get to know you before your treatment even begins. We conduct structured conversations and use clinical tools to understand you more clearly before we begin your treatment.

More Options Beyond Therapy and Medication

Sometimes medication and therapy may not provide enough relief from the depressive symptoms of bipolar disorder. In these cases, our specialists may consider brain stimulation treatments such as rTMS as part of a carefully managed, personalised treatment plan.

This is What Your First Session Will Look Like

You Meet 2 Experts for 90 Minutes

You’ll meet a clinical psychologist and a psychiatrist. Together, they’ll explore changes in your mood, energy, sleep and behaviour, and how these affect your daily life.

You Get Clarity on What’s Going On

Bipolar disorder can bring periods of high energy or irritability, as well as low mood. We’ll help you understand your symptoms, spot patterns and recognise possible triggers.

You get a Treatment Plan Made Just for You

We’ll create a treatment plan around your symptoms, needs and goals. It may include medication, therapy, sleep support and practical ways to manage changes in your mood.

You Keep Getting Support as You Improve

Managing bipolar disorder takes ongoing support. We’ll track your progress, review what is helping and adjust your treatment when needed, so you can stay well and feel supported.

“For years I jumped between high and lows that were impossible to control — I felt like king of the world one day and down in the dumps the next. It was really scary and lost all my sense of self. But meeting Dr Akul changed that. With her guidance and the right medication, I am now slowly regaining control of my life and being able to focus on what matters most without getting sucked into the extremes.”

“Sometimes i felt like i was on top of the world, i was invincible, i was riding high waves. I would feel this way for weeks but then suddenly? I would start feeling like i just had no energy. I used to think im just tired, i’ll get back to my confident self again but i started noticing a pattern. After consulting the psychologists at BetterPlace, i found out that i had bipolar. After the treatment i am now feeling much better.”

“My life changed when I was 22 when I started having severe panic attacks. I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 disorder with a psychotic effect. It took 3 years of constantly visiting different doctors, specialists and therapists to finally land an accurate diagnosis. So far recovery has been challenging but with the help of BetterPlace and their expert team, I am slowly working towards reclaiming my life.”

“My brother’s fight with bipolar was breaking our family. His mood swings and being sad all the time was so hard on all of us. One night he cried and said he was a burden. It broke my heart. Getting help was so hard, but it changed everything. The meds and talking to someone helped him so much. We also learned how to help him. Seeing him smile again feels like a dream. It’s not perfect, but it’s better. Thanks betterplace”

“My husband’s bipolar turned everything upside down. Some days he was outgoing and making big plans then sometimes just nothing. I felt so lost, like i was losing him. Thanks to betterplace and its amazing staff, therapy showed us how to talk to each other, and his meds helped him feel more normal. He’s not fixed but he’s already more present in the moment with me.”

I was unsure about seeking help for bipolar disorder, but Dr. Akul Gupta explained things clearly and made me feel hopefull.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not right away. In your first session, we’ll focus on understanding you—your concerns, thought patterns, emotional experiences, and any challenges you’ve been facing. Our psychologists and psychiatrists work together to carry out a thorough assessment, using the latest tools and clinical insights. Based on this, we’ll design a personalised treatment plan that’s right for you. Your actual treatment will begin after this in-depth evaluation, so we can make sure it’s truly tailored to your needs.

If your thoughts, emotions, or behaviours are starting to interfere with your daily life—whether it’s your relationships, work, sleep, or ability to focus—it’s a good idea to speak to a professional. You don’t need to wait for things to get worse. Feeling persistently low, overwhelmed, anxious, stuck in certain patterns, or simply not like yourself are all valid reasons to reach out. Getting support early can make a real difference.

Our approach is focused on long-term healing and meaningful change, not just quick fixes. We take the time to understand your unique experiences—your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and what might be triggering distress. Using evidence-based assessments, we develop a personalised treatment plan that may include therapy, medication, or a combination of both. Throughout the process, we offer consistent support to help you build resilience, develop healthier patterns, and stay on track even when things feel challenging.

Therapy sessions are 100% confidential and there is 0% judgement. The therapist will never share the details of your case with any professional who is not part of your treatment plan.

Yes, you’re welcome to bring a family member or friend for support during your appointments if you’d like.

The BetterPlace clinic is open from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm on Monday through Saturday.

Your first conversation with our psychologist will last around 45 minutes as it involves a detailed discussion about your needs, goals and history. A typical conversation with a psychiatrist could last anywhere between 15-20 mins, and on-going therapy sessions typically last 45-60 minutes, depending on your treatment plan and clinician’s recommendation.

There’s no one-size-fits-all treatment in mental health – each person needs a unique treatment plan, so the recovery period can also differ. However, most patients start seeing significant improvement in their day-to-day functioning and quality of life within 2-3 weeks of treatment. In fact, for certain advanced psychiatric treatments like accelerated rTMS (for Depression, OCD and Addictions), patients can start seeing results in a few days.

The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on your individual needs and treatment plan. Your clinician will discuss this with you during your first appointment.

Our psychiatrists and psychologists provide both online and offline consultancy. However, some specialised therapy techniques like relaxation therapy, rTMS or tDCS can only be administered in person, at our clinic.
